College Gets Top Marks
It was top marks for the Computing department at Reid Kerr College in Paisley recently when they were awarded a Grade ‘A' by the British Computer Society (BCS) on the annual audit of the College's provision of the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) qualification. An external auditor carried out the audit, which was part of an ongoing assessment of the College over the previous 6 years.
The ECDL establishes European standards for everyone who uses a computer and is already adopted by many individuals and organisations, many of which use as the performance benchmark they expect from employees. This internationally recognised qualification is endorsed by the BCS and includes training in Basic IT Concepts, Management of Files, Word Processing and Spreadsheets.
Employees from National Semiconductor (NSC) in Greenock have been driving their careers in the right direction recently and are currently studying for the ECDL. Susanne Keane, a Manufacturing Technician with NSC said, "I took the ECDL course as I was keen to further my knowledge of IT systems and in particular use of our own systems at NSC. It was an important CV entry for me as this is a well recognised qualification."
Delivered in-house by Reid Kerr College, National Semiconductor chose to promote the ECDL as an IT standard for their manufacturing technicians and over 50 employees will complete the IT qualification this year with some of the employees enrolling for Advanced level ECDL training this August.
The main focus of the BCS audit was on the Test Centre including registration, technical support, curriculum delivery, and examination and assessment procedures. Auditor's comments following the visit included, "This Centre demonstrates good working practice and staff are committed to delivering quality ECDL training/testing."
