Behind the Face 2011
Students working on prejudice, stereotyping and discrimination as part of their course recently took part in a class exercise that explored the attitudes towards facial disfigurement. A group from the HNC Child Health & Social Care course volunteered to be made up by Make-up Artistry students from the College. The HND Make-up Artistry students created examples of facial disfigurements and the students were then tasked with visiting a busy shopping centre to gage reactions.
Lecturer in Communication Carole Campbell said, “All the students found the experience very educational and have become more aware of the effects unconscious discrimination can have on individuals. This experience will be incredibly valuable to them as they progress with their studies within the vocation of Care.”
