Subjects include: Hazard Identification, Policies & Procedures, Safety Training,  Communication, Information Systems, Safety Reps & Committees, Accident Investigation, Maintaining Records, Safety Law, Controlling Contractors, Safety Surveys, Safe Working Practices, Fire Prevention.

Entry Requirements:
No formal entry qualifications, but it should be noted that the examination includes a requirement to write a short report.

Distance Learning

Aim:
To provide a basic qualification in occupational safety and health.

Length of Study:
200 hours home study or 1 year. Exams are June and December.

Entry Requirements:
None, but it would be beneficial if the students had some experience of report writing.

Contents:
Part A1 - Health and Safety Foundations; Policy; Organising for Health and Safety; Promoting a Positive Health and Safety Culture: Risk Assessment; Principles of Control.

Part A2 - Movement of People and Vehicles - Hazards and Control; Manual and Mechanical Handling Hazards and Control; Work Equipment Hazards and Control; Electrical Hazards and Control; Fire Hazards and Control; Chemical and Biological Health Hazards and Control; Physical and Psychological Health Hazards and Control; Construction Activities - Hazards and Control; Incident Investigation, Recording and Reporting; Monitoring, Review and Audit.

Study Method:
Home-based self-study with tutor support for help and advice.

Assessment:
Written assignments by arrangement, practical examination and an external exam.
