Aim:
The course is divided into 3 sections:
Foundation Skills include computer hardware and software, files and folders and working with icons and windows.

Information search raises awareness of nature and extent of information available on the Internet; search for information using browsing and keyword techniques; appreciate issues and risks such as secure access, viruses, unsolicited e-mail, security etc.

e-participation looks at online resources and services - buying a book, paying a bill, making a holiday reservation; looks further into risks associated with using the Internet.e-Citizen is the new end-user computer skills certification programme from the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) Foundation.  The programme is designed to cater for those with a limited knowledge of computers and the Internet who wish to gain valuable everyday computer and Internet skills.  

Entry Requirements:
No prior IT Experience is required, but knowledge of the keyboard would be advantageous.

Contents:
The Computer: Files and Folders; Simple Applications; Internet basics, e-mail basics Searching, Precautions, Information Access, Retrieval and Use On-line services, participation by Access, interaction and use.

DISTANCE LEARNING

Length of Study:
18 Weeks with Tutor Support.

Home-based, self-study with a tutor to contact for help and advice.

Assessment:
One- on-line exam lasting approximately 45 minutes. This exam must be taken at Reid Kerr College.

Cost: £100 (Includes registration, support materials and exam).
