Course Content:
The mail subject areas in this updated course focus on: IT Applications (including Databases and Spreadsheets), Applications Development, Database Design, PC Support, Introduction to SQL, Relationa Database Systems.

Course delivery incorporates the Oracle Academy Curriculum offering the opportunity to persue Oracle Certification.

Entry Requirements:
1 Higher or 12 relevant SQA units or other relevant qualifications and experience.

Study Mode:
Full-Time, Part-Time, Evening & Distance Learning.

Progression To:
Access to 2nd year of HND Information Technology.

 DISTANCE LEARNING

(12 Credits)

Aim:
This course comprises of the following units: Computer Architecture, Information Technology: Applications Software, Software Development: Planning, Computer Operating Systems, Team Interaction: Working within a Project Team, Integrated Assessment Credit (Examination), Software Development: Structured Programming, Information Systems & Services, Systems Development: Introduction, Systems Development: Structured Systems Methods, Internet Client Services.

Length of Study:
This course will normally take 2 years to complete, assuming 6 hours of study each week.

Entry Requirements:
1 Higher or 12 relevant SQA units or other relevant qualifications and/or work experience.

Study Method:
Home or work-based self-study with additional support and advice from personal tutor.

Assessment:
The course will be assessed by written assessments (which may require the presence of an invigilator) and practical assessments (which may have to be completed in College). Tutors will advise on the requirements for each unit.

Comments:
Student must have access to a computer with Microsoft Windows and Office. Tutors will advise on any other software required. Access to College computer facilities can be arranged. In order to achieve the HN Certificate, all 12 credits must be obtained.
