This course aims to provide a high level of information technology, administrative and organisational skills as well as 2 credits of options in for instance Human Resource Management to allow entry or progression to the post of Administrator/Secretary in a variety of organisations. Students completing this qualification can articulate to Year 2 of the HND on a part-time basis. Successful students have an excellent track record of gaining employment/promotion and undertaking further studies at HND and degree level.

DISTANCE LEARNING
Aim:
This newly revised course has been designed in consultation with employers to provide the skills required in today's office including a high level of IT skills - covering Databases, Spreadsheets, Word Processing and Presentation Skills, as well as bookkeeping, communication and personal effectiveness. Specialisms in Human Resource Management or Information Technology may be undertaken as part of the course as well.
Length of Study:
The course consists of 12 Higher National Credits, each of which lasts 18 weeks with tutor support.
Entry Requirements:
It is highly recommended that candidates have a formal qualification in word processing/typing as the level of skill required for a pass in this area is extremely high. Study Method:
Home-based, self-study with a tutor to contact for help and advice.
Assessment:
Assessments on this course are continuous throughout the year and consist of various methods including open and closed book assessments and/or oral presentation. In addition there is a closed book examination (graded unit) towards the end of the course which assesses elements of all core units. This must be undertaken under supervised conditions. Some unit assessments must be taken under supervised conditions either in college or elsewhere with appropriate invigilation. A detailed course handbook is available on request.
