The shortlist of nominees for the 2012 Renfrewshire Provost’s Community Awards has been announced.  The 17 finalists have been chosen from all the nominations received by a panel of judges headed by Renfrewshire’s Provost Celia Lawson.

The awards recognise the inspirational achievements of people from across Renfrewshire and a former Reid Kerr College Ferguslie Learning Centre student, Ian Williams is among the nominees up for one of these prestigious awards.

Shortlisted in the Community Volunteer Award category, Ian was nominated by Ferguslie Learning Centre Manager Letitia Fraser, for his dedication and commitment to helping his community.

Letitia said, “It was a real pleasure to hear that Ian is a finalist at these Awards and I am delighted that he has been recognised for the selfless work he carries out for the people of Ferguslie Park.

Ian has supported and formed many new groups in his local community including a very successful ‘men’s health’ group which he sourced support and funding for, helping to set-up a series of courses including Woodwork, Food Hygiene and Heart Start.  Ian is currently working on 5 projects throughout Renfrewshire working with many local agencies and is chairperson with many committees including Ferguslie Park Community Garden Society.  Ian works tirelessly to make a success of this and many other groups made up of local residents who gain great support from his efforts.”

Each of the shortlisted nominees and the person who nominated them will be invited to attend the awards ceremony which is being held at the Glynhill Hotel, Renfrew on Saturday 25 February.  The awards are hosted by Renfrewshire’s Provost Celia Lawson who will this year be joined by STV’s Sean Batty and River City’s Tom Urie.
