Reid Kerr College students recently redesigned the face of the British Red Cross Shop in Dumbarton Road, Glasgow.  The students, who are studying interior architecture, created a Christmas theme titled ‘sustainable Christmas’ and produced an array of outstanding work, some of which was chosen to dress the shop window in Glasgow’s West End.

Shop Manager Diane Wing said, “This has been an absolute success thanks to the students’ hard work. I have never had so many people come in to ask questions and the window has brought a breath of fresh air into our shop.”

Art & Design lecturer Marissa Giannasi added, “The students were restricted to only using recycled materials and throw away objects in their proposal.  Everybody worked incredibly hard experimenting with materials that people would not normally associate with interior design or Christmas.  Materials used included CDs, plastic cups, light bulbs, books, video cassettes and an entire dress made out of Metro newspapers!.”

The students and staff also organised a fundraising event last week, selling unique items made by hand and raised over £240 for the Red Cross.
