Pauline Obbo
Pauline Obbo has been visiting Scotland from her home country of Uganda since 2004 and loved it so much she put her feet firmly on Scottish soil in 2008 when she enrolled for a course in Interior Design at Reid Kerr College. Pauline now 26, visited her brother Pius who was studying Computing at the College and when she chose to continue with her education, she made the decision to move from Uganda and study in the country that she had come to know and love very well.
Pauline said, “I loved visiting Pius while he was a student here, meeting the friendly people and I especially enjoyed the cooler weather. I knew that when I was ready to move on to further education, Reid Kerr would be my first choice. I was very keen to study Interior Design and was delighted that there was a suitable course at the College. I have studied NC, HNC and HND Interior Design and the 3 years of study have been amazing. I have learned so much, even when I look back at the first sketches that I produced I can see how much I have come on while at Reid Kerr.
The quality of work is very good, we are exposed to so much about the industry and on comparing my learning with friends back home, I know that I have good quality qualifications on my CV. There are great learning facilities here including access to the latest technology, a combination which has definitely enhanced my learning. Leaving home to come and study in another country has been a very positive experience for me and I consider Scotland my second home. Support from the lecturers has been great and this has helped a lot while being at College and away from home – there is also a brilliant International department at the College and excellent support from Hazel Mulberry, the College’s International Officer. As well as completing the 3 years of training at Reid Kerr we were also tasked with organising an exhibition to showcase our work. This was a great opportunity to work with my fellow students on a joint project and it was rewarding to see our work on show to the public and the invited guests.”
Pauline has applied to study Interior Architecture at University and says that when she finally completes her studies in the UK, it will be time to return home although she isn’t looking forward to leaving Scotland behind!
