A group of students from Reid Kerr College have been making education their business recently, learning all about the corporate world in a bid to achieve a series of qualifications further their education and progress their careers.  International students Wipha Phosri and Agnieszka Fras study a National Certificate (NC) in Business and collectively hope to achieve a better future through College.

Twenty two year old Wipha Phosri came to Scotland from Thailand 4 years ago after her family agreed that she would gain a better education in this country.  Initially Wipha spoke no English and following a series of English language courses on her arrival, she is now on her way to completing her first qualification in Business at Reid Kerr and wants to continue with a Higher National Certificate (HNC) with an option to study a Medical route.  Like Wipha, Polish born Agnieszka Fras, 23 completes the NC in Business next month and she believes that it has been a great introduction to the various progression routes that students can take at the College’s Business School.  Agnieszka said, “The NC allows students to select a number of ways to continue with your learning and like Phosri, I plan to return to the College at the start of next term and take a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Business.

Senior Lecturer in Business Darroch Campbell said, “The Business School at Reid Kerr offers a wide range of courses in Business and Computing.  The NC in Business at SCQF level 5 has been designed as a flexible business programme covering a wide range of business skills. It can provide an understanding of key business topics such as finance, marketing and customer care along with the core skills of communication and IT that are relevant to business.  As a Group Award at Level 5, it allows students to progress to a range of HN courses including Business, Administration and Accounting.

These students are a very successful example of how the educational experience at Reid Kerr is not only about gaining qualifications but also about making new friends and in this case, learning about other cultures through personal experiences.   Wipha and Agnieszka have both been successful on the NC Business course and can look forward to continuing their education at Reid Kerr College.”
